On the 24th of May fourth to sixth class went on a school tour. First we went to learn about aeroplanes. We go to shoot a gun that had no ammunition . We learned a lot and it was fun. Then we got to hold birds that are trained to clear the runway. We then had lunch and the people that were there gave us hot dogs. After that we got on the bus and went to Jump Zone.We went into a room and put weird socks on and watched a safety video. Then we went and bounced on the trampolines. We then played knock out games and basketball. Then we got a drink. After we played dodge ball. Then we lined up and went home. We had a great day.
Juniors up to fourth class did the bicycle and scooter workshop. We learned about bicycle and scooter safety such as emergency stops, how to put your helmet on properly and different drills . Our teacher was Chiara. The workshop was on Monday the 11th of June.
We worked really hard to get our Discovery Primary Science plaque . This involved everyone from Junior Infants up to 6th class. We did experiments and projects in our classrooms, for example making circuits, making switches, parallel circuits and series circuits. We learned about communication and codes. We programmed bug robots to travel around a maze. We made solar microwaves with pizza boxes and cling film to see how global warming effects the world. Ms Fenlon's class made musical instruments and designed boats from materials that would float.
On May 4th, 5th and 6th class participated in a science fair in our school where we presented our experiments and projects to the whole school. We demonstrated many projects such as volcanic eruptions, chromatography , chemical reactions and how lava lamps work. Last week, we received our Discover Primary Science plaque . Most Fridays for the next few weeks we are going to be doing Spike ball. Outside last week we learned the basics and the moves and how to play against other teams. It was really fun. We had one of our teachers and two previous students teach us.
We are apparently okay considering that it was our first time playing. This year it was 5th& 6th playing it. Last year it was just 6th class. We are going to a competition in a few weeks in Dublin. Hopefully we can win something, though winning doesn’t matter it is more about having fun. Wish us luck.
We have a team together in the school where it actually makes people happier. Our team is called the Well Being Committee. The members are Jane,Amy,Emily,Stephanie,Matilda and Daniel and the teacher is Ms Carroll. She helps us with our surveys and everything else we do. We do yoga, meditation, dancing, colouring competitions and lots of other fun activities. We have a happy space where there is candles and is a lovely area with lovely scents burning. It is a lovely area to stand beside for a few mins to smell the scents. We have an intention box where you put an intentions in every week. For four weeks, in March and April, 5th and 6th class have been doing a bicycle workshop. We have been learning how to make left and right hand turns. We also have been learning to indicate and how to been seen on the road with high visibility jackets. Jason and Malcolm are very good at explaining the rules of cycling to us . They have thought us a lot about being safe on a bike.
Not so long ago we had a jumble sale to raise money for the school so we can put in new tarmac. We got all the toys, teddy’s and other stuff from everyone at the school. 5th and 6th class were helping out with selling things. Parents were even allowed in to buy stuff. If people where hungry, they could grab some cotton candy and popcorn off Alex and Charlotte. At the end of the day, we made E500 for the school, so as you can tell we did GREAT!!! Also for active week , each class did some yoga. Everyone really enjoyed it and felt nice and relaxed after it :)
