On Monday, 22nd of May, 4th and 5th class investigated the purpose of a flower. We dissected flowers to examine in the inner parts of the flower and investigate how seeds how formed through pollination. We learned how important the honey bee is for pollination and plant growth. Here are some of our photos.

Brian Kerrigan from MSD came to our school to tell us about the place he works in. He works in MSD. MSD stands for Merc Sharp Dohme. He works with drugs and medicines. He gets medicines from the U.S.A. They are frozen so the drugs do not go bad. It is frozen up to -42 c. When it gets to Carlow they defrost it until it turns back to liquid. Then they put the drugs into the vials and syringes. The MSD are very strict about cleaning. They clean the whole building about three times a day. If someone does not wash their hands there is a big cleaning spree. You are not allowed to wear jewellery or makeup. If you have a beard you would have to cover it up with a beard mask. It is very important in case the germs get into the drugs. You have to be trained to clean the tables and know everything in MSD. If you forgot to wash your hands it would be okay once or twice but if you kept on doing it the wrong way you would have to be retrained. They never use paper in MSD. They use tablets, ipads and computers. All the drugs are bottled with technology and never by hand. They have and use robots that sometimes get broken. If this happens people from the U.S.A have to come and repair them. If you want to work at MSD you should study science or engineering at school.
