This year, we have decided to work towards earning the The Pieta House Amber Flag for our school, which is awarded to schools and companies who have worked towards creating a safe, healthy and inclusive environment that supports positive mental health and well-being. We will be organising a wide range of activities to include all members of the school community such as mindfulness and meditation, celebrating World Mental Health Day and holding fundraisers for Pieta House, as well as continuing activities already taking place in the school. The first step of this journey for our school was to establish an Amber Flag committee representative of each class group. This group will be heavily involved in the organisation and facilitation of activities within the school throughout the year and will communicate the ideas and thoughts of the pupils regarding mental health and well-being to the teachers, ensuring that the process is as child-led and relevant as possible. In September, two committee groups were set up; the Amber Flag Committee, which features children from First Class to Sixth Class, and the Mini-Mindfulness Committee, featuring children from Junior and Senior Infants. We've already been working hard on planning activities and events for the school and are looking forward to a great year of promoting positive mental health and well-being!
